In the year of 1968, the Highland Park Society of Model Railroad Engineers, Inc. created a "Man of the Year Award" to recognize the outstanding contributions of a particular club member. The award is not always given each year so it is the club's highest honor to bestow upon a fellow member. The member gets their name on the trophy that is displayed in the club room. The honoree also recieves $100.00 award from the Van Facko-endowed Man of the Year Fund.
