The Highland Pacific Railroad
The Highland Park Society of Model Railroad Engineers, Inc. (the club) currently operates a large HO-scale layout of a fictional railroad known as the Highland Pacific. The club is supported by some 30 members.  Founded in April 1948, the club is one of the older and better-known model railroad clubs in the Los Angeles area.

The club has been featured on KTLA Morning News with Gayle Anderson and has appeared in major model railroading magazines.

The principle goal of the Society is the construction of a fun-to-operate model railroad which includes a variety of operational possibilities for all members, complete with eye-catching scenery.

Founding Member George Boggs

George Boggs, the only surviving charter member of the Highland Park Society of Model Railroad Engineers, stopped by the clubhouse for a visit. He was one of the small group of founders that built the Society's first layout on the second floor above a hobby shop in Highland Park. When the hobby shop owner decided to sell the business and the Society was forced to move, George was the one who led the search for a suitable location and ended up negotiating the purchase of the present club rooms in San Gabriel. The club was incorporated and established as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.

George was the first recipient of the club's prestigious Man of the Year in 1968. By a vote of the members he was also officially recognized as one of only two Honorary Members. Welcome George!

Honorary Member John Weiss

John Weiss, one of only two Honorary Members of the Highland Park Society of Model Railroad Engineers, stopped by the clubhouse for a visit while on a work assignment from his home in Texas. He was one of the early members that were critical to the club's success in its current location. John, and IBM systems engineer, thirty years ago programmed a mainframe to develop all the wiring lists for all electrical connections for the layout. The wiring lists are still being used today. He was also instrumental in designing the trackplan still at the heart of the club today.

John was the 5th recipient of the club's prestigious Man of the Year in 1973.
